Global Ferronickel cleared to operate Ipilan mine pending permit renewal

Global Ferronickel Holdings Inc. said its subsidiary, Ipilan Nickel Corp., has secured clearance from regulators to continue mining operations at its Palawan site while its mineral production sharing agreement (MPSA) renewal remains pending.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) informed Ipilan Nickel that it may proceed with activities under MPSA No. 017-93-IV Amended 2000, citing provisions under the Administrative Code of 1987 that allow uninterrupted operations if a licensee has filed a timely and complete application for renewal.

The MGB has already endorsed the application to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), which holds final decision-making authority over the matter, Global Ferronickel said in a stock exchange filing.

Ipilan Nickel confirmed that it has complied with all procedural and documentary requirements tied to the renewal.

The Ipilan project is among Global Ferronickel’s key mining assets and plays a critical role in its nickel ore exports, especially as global demand remains elevated amid the energy transition and rising stainless steel production.
